The great, Kobe Bryant for example, a world champion basketball player and high scorer, cannot be afforded the time to strategize about the angular velocity of a basketball in trajectory when attempting a game winning shot or the geometrical construct of the backboard and has to take less into account the physical prowess of defenders. ![]() “Adaptive unconscious allows for memory formation, flexibility in elastic decision-making and quicker stimulus response “(Wilson, 2002). But that’s over.Scenario Finale: Illustrative example of the Id Vs. Long ago, I was so caught up in being the perfect angel that I denied an entire part of myself – my true self. She can express herself exactly the way she wants without holding back. But why does that mean I have to use it the way they want me to? Why can’t I be beautiful, funny, and intelligent on my own terms? Why should I temper my tongue and mute my soul so that others around me feel more comfortable with who I am? They think I ought to be quiet and demure, that I should be working towards some sort of academic goal. When people look at me, when they hear who I am and what I can bring to the table, they expect me to be someone… different. If it came down to it, if I had to choose between being an “Angel” or a “Devil”, I would always want to be the Devil. While not a true fan of everything Freud theorize, I do believe that within all of us, there is an inner self that is suppressed, some more than others.Įver since we were born, we were subjected to outside influences, telling us how we should act, what we should say, and how our lives are supposed to be lived. I will be referring the Id as the devil and the Super Ego as the Angel, for the purpose of this post. This is pretty much my simplistic summary of one of Freud’s theory. The Super Ego and the Id are almost always in conflict and to balance it out, there is our Ego which acts within the boundaries of reality to satisfy our Id. ![]() Whereas the Super Ego are boundaries that are imposed upon us through nurture and ideal expectations from society as to who we are supposed to be. ![]() For those who are unfamiliar with Freud’s theories, in brief, the Id is referred to as our inner self or true nature, which is us when we are born and without the influence of nurture or society.
